This is a fantastic antique Japanese imari fish-shaped plate or platter, in my humble opinion probably Edo period but could be Meiji. I believe it's representing a sea breem. The front is decorated in the characteristic imari reds and blues, with intricate lines delineating each of the scales, and little dashes around the gills and the fierce mouth.
The back is decorated with waves and has an imitative Chinese Wanli reign mark, Daimin Seika Nensei in Japanese.
Size: approximately 9.5" x 6.25" x 1.5"
Condition: one of the tail fins has a small chip (please see photos). Light wear to the enamel.
